Something for Everyone
One of the fastest growing parishes in Louisiana, Livingston Parish attracts many residents seeking proximity to the State Capital (Baton Rouge is less than 10 miles via Interstate 12), excellent schools, low crime, a great cost-of-living, and many popular outdoor activities. In addition, Livingston is a hotbed for current and planned retail and commercial growth, with major new developments underway for its Satsuma Road, Range

Avenue and Juban Road interchanges on I-12.

The parish's largest city, Denham Springs, includes a downtown antique district with shops, restaurants and other retail stores. The parish also features Carter Plantation, a historical artifact and nationally recognized championship golf venue, and Tickfaw State Park, a 1,200-acre park located along three miles of the Tickfaw River near the town of Springfield. The park offers diverse recreational, nature and educational opportunities while magnificent natural resources like Lake Maurepas, the Tickfaw and the Amite River make boating, tubing and fishing in Livingston major activities for residents of the Capital Region.

While retail, tourism and timber are all important to the local economy, there are also several major manufacturing operations, including Ferrara Fire Apparatus in Holden, the fourth largest manufacturer of fire trucks in the United States; Fortune 500 company, Shaw/Sunland Fabrication Corporation's manufacturing facility; and the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) federal research project. The LIGO facility, one of only two such sites in the world, is funded by the National Science Foundation and works under the joint supervision of the California Institute of Technology and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to detect and study gravitational waves emanating from outer space.
