Operation: A Better Louisiana

Our beautiful Louisiana is getting a bad reputation. Hurricane Katrina splashed international perceptions of ineptitude, corruption, and havoc that are still sensationalized by the national media. The 2007 gubernatorial race did not help matters with candidates touting that they would reform “dirty politics”, “improve education” and deter crime as highest priorities – as if all of Louisiana was teetering towards implosion.

But what is missing from all of this is the fact that there is great news coming out of Louisiana, and specifically the region represented by the I-12 Alliance. For example:

bullet There were parts of Louisiana not at all impacted by the storm and the heaviest toll of devastation has been centralized and dramatically improved.
bullet The I-12 Alliance's shoreline parishes, those most vulnerable to the storm impact, gained power and communications in less than 72 hours after the most powerful storms hit the United States in decades.
bullet Business is thriving throughout the entire region. Many companies chose not to leave Louisiana but relocate to the northern shore/alliance parishes.
bullet Federal funding and investments in the region are higher than ever along Interstate 12 and the Technology Corridor as research indicates that these areas are thriving, populous, and educated, and the economic environment, business assets, and cost of doing business are second-to-none in the "central south".
bullet Education has always been a very high priority of the I-12 Alliance region. St Tammany parish receives accolades as one of the very best school districts in the United States.

The positives are too numerous to simply list here. Therefore, the I-12 Alliance has decided to announce, to anyone interested in learning, those news items that mainstream media chooses not to promote.

Someday, we hope, our successes, triumphs, and economy will be so good it will be impossible to ignore.

Each quarter the I-12 Alliance will disseminate a unique newsletter written in part by a regional leader describing the latest wave of negative publicity and contrast it to what is really going on in the area.
