Of course, patrons of arts and culture can enjoy the proximity of the region to New Orleans and see performances of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, enjoy productions of the New Orleans Opera, or take in exhibits at one of its museums. But cultural opportunities exist on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain as well. The Greater Covington Center is a 15,762 square foot performance venue suitable for professional theatrical performances. Hammond has the Columbia Theater for the Performing Arts as well as Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Visual Arts, Theater, and Dance. |

New Orleans may have Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, and other grand events, but festivals and fairs are also a part of the rich heritage of Louisiana’s I-12 Alliance. Washington Parish Free Fair in October provides a family-friendly experience with plenty of good food, crafts, carnival rides, and a touch of history. St Helena sponsors the Parish Forest Festival that spotlights the importance of the forest industry to the parish. Livingston has the Livingston Parish Fair every October, and Springfield hosts the annual Heritage Festival. The Oyster Festival and Strawberry Festival in Tangipahoa Parish are just two of the annual events that celebrate some of the great food the region provides. And, of course, New Orleans is close by, in case you want to make it to their world-famous parties. Combine the cultural possibilities with the available recreational opportunities, and it is clear that Louisiana’s I-12 Alliance has a great deal to offer outside of its economic opportunities. |
