Sports & Recreation
With a temperate climate year-round, Louisiana’s I-12 Alliance region presents many excellent opportunities for sports and recreational activities. The corridor is a major reason for Louisiana’s reputation as a “Sportsman’s Paradise.” The possibilities for outdoor activities are unlimited.

Anyone interested in being active in the outdoors have their pick of activities anywhere in the five parishes, including walking, running, or riding a bike. For example, Tammany Trace, which runs throughout St Tammany Parish, is the result of a conversion of a railway to a 31-mile recreational corridor that is used by pedestrians, joggers, bicyclists, equestrians, and rollerbladers.

Public and private golf courses are located throughout the region, while fishing and boating are popular hobbies throughout as there are ample opportunities to do so on the region’s streams and rivers as well as on Lake Pontchartrain.

If you’d rather watch sports than participate in them, professional sports are less than an hour away in New Orleans, with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints and the NBA’s New Orleans Hornets. If you prefer college sports, the region is very proud of the Louisiana State University Tigers' national football championship title as well as their other competitive teams in baseball and basketball. Furthermore, the I-12 Alliance's homegrown SLU Lion's make for great Saturdays in Hammond.
